The Effect of Workload and Competence on The Performance of Nurses at Baliméd Karangasem Hospital Through Work Motivation as an Intervening Variable

Hospitals are an integral part of the healthcare system, providing comprehensive services that encompass curative, preventive, and rehabilitative aspects for the community. This study was conducted at BaliMéd Karangasem Hospital with the aim of analyzing the influence of workload and competence on nurses' performance, both directly and indirectly through work motivation as an intervening variable. The approach used was quantitative descriptive, with data collection methods including documentation, interviews, and the distribution of questionnaires. The analysis technique employed was path analysis to identify direct and indirect relationships between variables. The study focused on four main variables: workload, competence, work motivation, and nursing performance. The analysis results indicate that workload has a positive influence on nursing performance through work motivation as an intervening variable. Similarly, competence has a positive influence on nursing performance both directly and through work motivation. These findings confirm that work motivation plays a crucial role in amplifying the impact of workload and competence on nursing performance. Based on the research findings, the management of BaliMéd Karangasem Hospital is advised to balance workloads to prevent them from becoming excessive, enhance nurses' competencies through training that includes both hard and soft skills, and foster high work motivation through motivation and reinforcement of work commitment
